Palliative Care

Not every child goes home. Children’s Hospital is adding life to their final days

Providing comfort

Every year, more than 70 children die at Children’s Hospital. Yet, it is the only remaining academic paediatric centre in Canada without a formal palliative care program. Palliative care is vitally important in the health care journey of a seriously ill child. At Children’s Hospital, our hope is to make their last days more comfortable. Our philosophy of care is about listening, advocating, supporting, caring and remembering.

Help us support children and their families during the most powerful and painful times in their lives.

With support from our donors, Children’s Hospital is:

  • Training and educating front line staff so that they can provide individualized and consistent palliative care;
  • Creating a Southwestern Ontario Pediatric Care Network that will equip the region with local resources and expertise. This will allow palliative care to be delivered in a child’s own local community;
  • Developing palliative care tools and resources for care givers and parents so that they can better understand the needs of our children;
  • Continuing to provide bereavement care programs including, memory boxes, family bereavement groups and annual memorial services.
